About Me

My name is Courtney Barnett (formally Mielke) and I am a sixth grade English Language Arts teacher at Dripping Springs Middle School. This is my second year at DSMS and my fifth year teaching in the district. I am looking forward to a great year!

A little about Mrs. Barnett

I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where most of my family still resides. I graduated from Texas A&M University (whoop!). While attending Texas A&M, I had the incredible opportunity to teach English at Middle School in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy. After college, I moved to Austin to teach third grade at Dripping Springs Elementary, which I taught for three years. One year ago, I made my move to the DSMS to teach 6th Grade ELA.

I enjoy watching NCAA Football (Gig 'em Aggies) and the NBA (Go Spurs Go!). In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking, paddle boarding, and exploring Austin parks and natural springs. I enjoy live music and spending time with friends and family. I love to relax with a good book.

I have always had a strong desire to travel. I believe that you can learn a lot about yourself and others by studying and immersing yourself in other cultures.

In February 2017, I married my husband, Eric in Dripping Springs. At home, I have an adopted 6-year-old Collie mix, Poppy, and a 2-year-old Golden Retriever puppy, Sadie. We love to hike and explore Austin.

It is my goal this academic year to develop a safe environment that encourages a love of reading, problem solving, risk taking, collaboration, and communication between family, peers and myself, so that your child may blossom into a life-long learner and global citizen.
